Subject: South Dakota Lion Hunting - Senate Bill 75
Action Alert
Dear Fred,

SAY NO TO ALL MOUNTAIN LION HUNTING IN SOUTH DAKOTA, NOT JUST THE USE OF HOUNDS!

SAY NO TO SOUTH DAKOTA'S SENATE BILL 75

The Mountain Lion Foundation is against the sport-hunting of mountain lions wherever it occurs, and however it is done. Especially in South Dakota where the lion population is low and has just recently been listed as a game animal.

The use of hounds while hunting mountain lions is a particularly loathsome practice. The hounds chase the lion for great distances before, exhausted, it climbs a tree in a futile attempt at safety. Once the hunters realize that their dogs are stationary they drive to the location, walk up to the tree, and shoot the terrified animal point-blank.

Hound advocates claim that utilizing this method of hunting will reduce the number of females and kittens that are killed during the hunting season, but this is only speculation. It is hard to differentiate a male from a female mountain lion when it is hiding high up in the branches of a tree.

Contact your legislator today and tell them why they must oppose SB 75, and why they should stop all trophy hunting of mountain lions in South Dakota! (Contact information for legislators - http://legis.state.sd.us/who/index.aspx)

This bill is being railroaded through at an alarming speed and must be stopped now!
